So Cate may have woken us up 4 times last night, but Meg slept from through from 6:30 until 4:45. It figures that when we finally get her to sleep, Cate keeps us up. It never ends.
We’ve been working on getting Meg to sleep better at night. We realized that she just didn’t have the ability to fall asleep on her own, so we’ve been working on that. We started this at about 4 am a week or two ago after I’d been up for over an hour and she wasn’t interested in the least in sleeping. We got to a point where there was nothing else we could do, so we put her in her crib and let her tough it out. She cried for 32 minutes (some of the most difficult minutes of my life) and then fell asleep and stayed asleep for another 2 hours or so. Now, she’s gotten to the point where she now falls asleep at night mostly on her own (I put her down awake but very sleepy) and if she wakes in the middle of the night, we only have a minute or two of crying before she’s asleep again.
I’ve decided that I’ll get up with her once during the night after about midnight. Lately that wake-up time has been getting progressively later. It was at about 11:30, then 1:00, then 1:45, and then last night 4:45. She’s been sleeping better during the day, too. It seems that perhaps she needed to know how to get herself to sleep. Everyone has been a lot happier.
