Meg still isn’t eating solids, which isn’t really a problem except that she seems hungry, even though she nurses often. Last night we decided to give food another whirl.
It occurred to me that we don’t have to use powdered baby cereal for her; we can make our own cereal by pureeing brown rice. Commercial rice cereal is fortified with iron, but the doctor has her on vitamin drops that contain iron, so it’s not an issue for us. We were having rice with dinner last night, so I was able to use that. I threw some rice in the food processor and thinned it with some water.
Meg seemed to like it a lot better. It’s the first time she hasn’t fussed while trying to feed her. I don’t know that she actually swallowed any of it, but she was smiling and making chewing motions. (Chewing motions are a sign of readiness for solid feeding.)
We’re going to try again tonight and see what happens. Perhaps she’ll actually start eating!
